The DHS 08X is a specialist 5-ply wood + 2-layer carbon defensive blade created for the modern chop-and-counterattack game. Rather than behaving like a slow, purely passive defensive blade, the 08X combines the stability and touch needed for chopping with a genuine power reserve when you step in to loop, drive or counter.

Its two specially treated carbon-felt layers reinforce the wood structure, while the oversized blade face gives defensive players extra stability and a generous contact area. The result is a distinctive modern-defender blade: control the rally, vary the spin, then attack when the opening appears.

Performance & Playing Characteristics

From distance, the 08X gives the modern defender the composure needed for heavy chops, changes of spin, controlled blocks and accurate placement. Its enlarged head and composite construction help keep the blade stable through contact, giving you confidence when absorbing pace or returning repeated attacks.

The important difference comes when defence turns into offence. The carbon reinforcement provides extra support when you accelerate, making the 08X far more capable on counter-loops, drives, smashes and sudden attacking transitions than a conventional slow chopping blade. DHS describes it specifically as a defensive-counterattack design: the idea is not simply to keep the ball on the table, but to create the opportunity to attack.

Despite the “chop-counterattack” concept, this is not an asymmetric two-speed blade with a dedicated attacking face and defensive face. The versatility comes from the 5+2 composite construction and the way the blade responds to different strokes. That also makes it a strong platform for combination setups using an attacking forehand rubber with long pimples, short pimples or another control-focused backhand rubber.
