What Does Rubber Booster Actually Do?

Booster is not table tennis glue. It is applied during rubber preparation to alter the sponge's elasticity and internal tension. As the liquid is absorbed, the sponge normally expands and the sheet begins to curve or “dome”. Once the treatment has settled, the rubber can feel softer, livelier and more responsive.

The effect varies with the rubber, sponge hardness and amount applied. More booster is not automatically better: excessive treatment can make a rubber too soft, difficult to control or increase its overall thickness.

How to Use Haifu Sea Moon Booster

Start with a clean, dry spongeRemove the rubber from the blade if necessary and make sure the sponge surface is clean and dry before treatment.

Apply one thin, even layerBrush Sea Moon evenly across the sponge. Apply it to the sponge side, not the playing surface/top sheet.

Allow it to absorb naturallyLeave the rubber in a cool, ventilated place. The sponge will usually expand and the sheet may dome noticeably as the booster works.

Add another thin layer only if requiredFor a stronger effect, a further thin coat can be applied after the previous application has absorbed. Allow around 24 hours between applications rather than rushing the process.

Wait for the dome to settleAfter the final treatment, allow the rubber to relax towards flat before mounting it. Do not force a heavily domed sheet onto the blade.

Glue with water-based table tennis glueOnce ready, apply suitable water-based glue to the sponge and blade, allow the glue to dry as directed, then carefully roll the rubber onto the blade.

Important: Sea Moon is a booster, not an adhesive, so you will still need water-based table tennis glue to attach the rubber. Start conservatively, particularly with factory-tuned or already-soft rubbers.

Which Rubbers Benefit Most?

Sea Moon is most commonly associated with hard Chinese-style inverted rubbers, where boosting can make the sponge easier to engage and provide additional rebound. It is frequently paired with tacky attacking rubbers such as the Chinese-style rubbers in our range.

Factory-tuned, tensor-style or already-soft rubbers should be treated more cautiously because they may already contain significant internal tension. If you are new to boosting, one light application is a more sensible starting point than immediately applying several heavy coats.

How Long Does the Effect Last?

Published specialist guidance commonly puts the useful boosting effect at roughly 4–8 weeks, although the real duration depends on the rubber, amount used, playing frequency and storage. When the extra response fades, experienced players may remove the rubber and repeat the process rather than continually adding booster while the sheet remains attached.

Competition & Thickness: What You Should Know

Competition note: boosting physically changes the rubber after manufacture. Under ITTF racket rules, post-factory treatment that changes the playing properties is not permitted, and the complete covering must also remain within the permitted thickness. If you compete under ITTF rules, check the current regulations and your finished racket before using a boosted setup in competition.
