How to apply XVT glue sheets — step by step
- Prepare: Ensure the blade face is clean, smooth and dry. Remove old adhesive. Consider sealing an unsealed or splinter-prone blade first.
- Identify the sides: If the supplied sheet labels a blade side and rubber side, follow those markings.
- Expose the first edge: Peel back about 2 cm of the first protective liner without touching the adhesive.
- Position on the blade: Align at the base of the blade head, immediately above the handle.
- Roll into place: Slowly pull the liner away while rolling the adhesive towards the blade tip to prevent trapped air.
- Trim the sheet: Carefully cut excess adhesive flush with the blade head; protect the wood and fingers.
- Expose the upper liner: Peel away the second protective layer.
- Fit the rubber: Align the rubber logo and lower edge above the handle. Roll progressively from handle to tip with gentle, even pressure; do not stretch the sponge.
- Finish: Inspect for bubbles, then trim the excess rubber with a sharp blade or scissors and add edge tape if desired.
